Our Curriculum Intent

Holistic Development:

  • To inspire pupils to develop a love for learning and a curiosity about the world around them.
To foster personal growth through the school's values of honesty, tolerance, courage, friendship, kindness, and respect.

Mastery Approach:

  • To deliver a mastery approach in Maths, using concrete, pictorial, and abstract resources to support pupils’ learning and ensure they achieve a deep understanding of concepts.

Knowledge and Skills Acquisition:

  • To ensure that pupils acquire a rich body of knowledge and skills across all subjects, enabling them to think critically and apply their learning in various contexts.
To embed both substantive knowledge (what pupils need to know) and disciplinary knowledge (how pupils learn and apply this knowledge) within the curriculum.

Community Engagement:

  • To build strong relationships with the community, enhancing pupils' education and broadening their experiences beyond the classroom.

Inclusivity and Support:

  • To provide a curriculum that is accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL needs, ensuring that all pupils make good progress.
To implement high-quality first teaching strategies that support differentiated learning and address common misconceptions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • To regularly review and refine the curriculum based on assessment data and feedback, ensuring it remains relevant and effective in meeting the needs of all pupils.

Evidence-Based Pedagogy:

  • To ensure that teaching practises are underpinned by research evidence, incorporating strategies like retrieval practice, small steps of learning, and formative assessment to enhance pupil engagement and understanding.

Our curriculum vision:

At Warden Hill Junior School, our curriculum vision is to inspire lifelong learners by providing a holistic and inclusive education that nurtures academic, social, and emotional development.

We aim to equip every pupil with the essential knowledge and skills for future success, grounded in our core values of honesty, tolerance, courage, friendship, kindness, and respect.
