Travel Buddies
The Travel Buddy is an important role at Warden Hill Junior School and is active in the school's travel plan, managed through the Modeshift STARS system, for which the school has achieved Bronze status and is aiming for silver.
At present there are five Travel Buddies, all of whom are in Year 6. The Travel Buddies encourage everyone in the school to travel and live as active a life as possible, e.g. by cycling, scootering or walking to school thus lessening the impact on the environment and reducing traffic on the roads around the local area. In the past their work has helped the school become a Bike-it Silver school.
They meet regularly, at least once each half term, to plan and organise many events and activities. These include:
- Walk to school week
- The Golden Lock
- Big Pedal
- Bling your Bike/Scooter competition
- Big Breakfast
- Be Safe Be Seen
- Park and Stride
- Cycle competitions
- Dr Bike – maintenance session
Dr Bike Session | Cycle Competition | Scooter Pod Opening | The Big Pedal | Travel 4 Life | Road Safety Class |
The Travel Buddies were selected because of their interest in promoting walking, scootering or cycling at school. They create and design posters which are placed around school and in their very own out-door notice board. Travel Buddies understand the importance of being safe travelling in general whether that is inside a car, walking or using there own wheels on the road. They carry out surveys, hand out questionnaires and help to write letters to parents and other stakeholders.
